The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board adopted new student assignment maps, impacting tens of thousands of kids and more-than two dozen schools. And while the district pays lip service to four guiding principles in developing the maps, the highest priority is quite obviously socio-economic status data. And, as it’s been for two decades, this SES data is a proxy for race.
