In an announcement video, Beasley said she was running for the seat to be vacated by Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) to help families in the state left behind by the COVID-19 pandemic. He lost his reelection bid to Roy Cooper in 2016 by a narrow margin of 10,277 votes. It was also the only gubernatorial seat to flip from Republican to Democratic five years ago.

He's the latest candidate from either party to announce a run after Burr's seat. Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was one of the high-profile names to initially throw their name into the primary mix for the North Carolina seat. The incoming elected Senator will join Republican Thom Tillis to represent the Tar Heel State in the Washington chamber.

House Democrats will "carry the sole impeachment charge across the Capitol late Monday evening, a rare and ceremonial walk to the Senate by the prosecutors who will argue their case," according to AP News. The 50 democrats in the Senate hope enough Republicans in the chamber, some who've publicly denounced Trump, will unify with them to bar the cast-off president from holding office again in the future.
