A U.S. Capitol Police officer is dead and another is hospitalized with injuries after an apparent attack Friday at a Capitol checkpoint. A man was said to have rammed his car into the officers and lunged at them with a knife before he was subdued, police said. Noah Green, 25, died after being taken into custody.

Kings Mountain Police Chief Lisa Proctor confirmed officer Frank Lee Whittington Jr. had undergone surgery and was recovering. She said the 13-year veteran of the force was expected to survive his injuries. The unidentified suspect involved was also shot and is being treated for their injuries.
