The Charlotte Mecklenburg School board had an emergency meeting and voted 8-1 to continue remote learning for several more weeks. Many CMS schools were scheduled to resume in-person learning next week. The action was taken on the recommendation of health officials as they watch the increase of viral spread.

A big plan to vaccinate one million people in Charlotte by July 4th. Atrium Health, Honeywell, Tepper Sports & Entertainment and the Charlotte Motor Speedway have entered into a partnership with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

Governor Roy Cooper is mobilizing 550 North Carolina National Guardsmen to bolster security in North Carolina and Washington, DC. With reports of demonstrations in state capitols, 350 of the guardsmen will stay here in North Carolina, and the remaining 200 are heading for Washington.

Many Charlotte museums are closing in response to the directive from Mecklenburg County’s health director Gibbie Harris. Levine Museum of the New South, both Mint Museum locations, the Bechtler Museum of the Modern Art, The Harvey B. Gantt Center all announced closings.

Everyone over the age of two arriving to the US from a foreign country will need to furnish proof of a negative test no more than 3 days before their flight departs. The new rule starting on Jan. 26 will be put in place to curb the spread of Coronavirus as different variants are being discovered around the world.

McConnell has told associates "he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party," according to a report from the New York Times published Tuesday.

CMPD is lending a hand with security at next week’s Inauguration in Washington DC. Reports say nine officers are going but CMPD will say only “While we cannot discuss specific staffing numbers or details related to security, we can ensure the public that our assistance will not create any local service interruptions

About 6,851 new Coronavirus cases are up by less than 1,000 from 5,936 on Monday. The totals are roughly half of the record 11,581 new cases reported Saturday across the Tar Heel State. At least 636,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state.

According to the report, "The Charlotte metro area grew by 5.83% between 2014 and 2018 due to net migration alone." They also noted that the city "rounds out the top 10 most desirable places to live, with many U.S. residents expressing an interest in living there compared to other places on the list.

As this week begins, Mecklenburg County Public Health Director Gibbie Harris says “Unfortunately our situation in Mecklenburg County is not improving“. “Our numbers continue to rise both in positivity rate, case rate, and deaths in our community. We’re also seeing high numbers in our hospital system.”
