The start of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution is happening across North Carolina this week. A rollout process that is known as ‘Phase 2B’ comes after ‘Phase 1A’ for healthcare workers and those who’re extremely high risk.
Mecklenburg County switches to 1B: Group 1 on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Anyone 75 years of age or older is eligible and they don’t need to have a pre-existing condition. A reservation is required for the inoculation along with some screening questions.

The COVID-19 vaccination site will be at the BoJangles Coliseum (2700 E Independence Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28205) starting on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Reservations can be made at mecknc.gov/COVID-19 or https://booknow.appointment-plus.com/83g1hcpv/ by Tuesday, Jan. 5. Appointments are also available over the phone by calling 980-314-9400 (option 3). If you leave a message, expect a return call within 24-48 hours.
Mecklenburg county is one of the first to offer the vaccine to the general public in the Tar Heel State. The process of making a reservation will vary by the county. There are no plans for a statewide rollout as of now. Everyone will need two doses of the vaccine in order for it to be effective.
