Stuart Cramer High School teachers had very special lesson plans for students studying health science and visual design. They worked with Radio One Charlotte’s community affairs manager, Ramona Holloway, to help classes use their talents to spread awareness and raise money for Family Dance Party CLT benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association.

Andrew Bradley, an Adobe Academy Certified Instructor at SCHS says there were primarily three classes involved in making their video. Bradley’s Adobe Visual I & II students teamed up with the aspiring medical professionals in Sarah Brady’s health science class.

Bradley says the timing was perfect for the collaboration.

Brady’s health science students had been working with memory care patients and had an enjoyable experience dancing and having fun after completing a stressful two weeks of clinicals.

The Adobe students took the lead on production. They covered fonts and color schemes from graphic design and practiced video editing skills. They added music, timing movements to sync with beat and making stylistic choices in transitions from one clip to another. Then came the task of making sure their final cut didn’t exceed 60 seconds.

As Career and Technical Education teachers at SCHS Bradley and Brady are constantly trying to show how what they learn in the classroom can translate to industry. Thanks to the Radio One Charlotte project Adobe students received real-world video editing experience. They were given an idea and set out to create a video that would make a positive difference for the Alzheimer’s Association’s Western Carolina Chapter.

Holloway says she gives the video and everybody involved “5 stars.” She adds that we’re grateful for all of the dedicated educators in our community. Ramona’s mother, Wheezy, was a teacher and during her dementia journey, she joyfully believed her adult daycare program was a school and that she was part of the faculty.
