The rest of the Group 4, which includes a portion of essential workers, will become eligible April 7. “This move to Group 4 is good news,” said Cooper. “I know there are many efforts across the state getting vaccines to people as quickly and fairly as possible and I want our providers to know that their work is making all the difference.”

If you've ever consumed 100 cigarettes in your lifetime, you too can get vaccinated, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. As part of Group 4, if you are a smoker (current or former), you'll be able to schedule an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine beginning on March 24.

Biden originally said there would be enough vaccine supply on-hand to inoculate the entire adult population by the end of July. "Through partnership with vaccine manufacturers and our efforts to ramp up its production, we will now have enough vaccine supply by the end of May," a statement by the administration said.

The Pfizer vaccine was 92% effective at preventing severe disease after two shots and 62% after one. It rivals Johnson & Johnson's one-shot variety of the vaccine which is said to be 66% effective at preventing the virus or its complications.  What makes Pfizer's unique is the effectiveness for preventing death was 72% two to three weeks after the first shot, a rate that may improve as immunity builds over time.
