On Friday, a warrant was also issued for the arrest of Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, the Russian Federation’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, on related charges.

Piotr Hofmanski, the president of the court, said in a video statement that although the ICC’s judges issued the warrants, it would be up to the rest of the world to make sure they were carried out.

“The ICC is doing its part of work as a court of law,” he said. “The judges issued arrest warrants. The execution depends on international cooperation.”
