The Carolina Panthers unveiled a new quarterback today as Baker Mayfield and GM Scott Fitterer addressed the media for the first time since Mayfield’s acquisition via trade from the Cleveland Browns on July 6.

Today on “Breaking with Brett Jensen,” Brett shared how the two answered the top questions media asked them.

One of the major questions heading into the availability is how the addition of Mayfield impacts last season’s primary starter Sam Darnold, who threw just 9 touchdown passes in 11 starts for the Panthers.

“It’s going to be an open competition,” Fritterer told the media, emphasizing the franchises’ philosophy of having competition at every position of the roster.

Brett also asked Mayfield about his thoughts on competing with Sam Darnold for a starting position in a contract year + hear Mayfield talk about his personal connection to the Charlotte area and what local institution he said he’s excited to visit.
