The House of Representatives hopes to rewrite the rules of congress in-favor of diversity. A step towards this was proposed by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and would remove specific terms like “male” and “female” in reference to a person’s genetic makeup and replace them with one that are gender-neutral.

No longer will individuals be referred to as “he” or “she”, but rather a generic term like “person” or “human,” if you will. This comes as more transgender and non-binary congressional candidates are being elected around the country. Pelosi cites the changes as a way to “make adjustments that reflect society’s evolving views on sexuality and gender identification.”

However, all of this doesn’t make sense. We’ve spent the past 100 years redefining society to match popular opinions, but this takes it a bit too far. Yes, gender identification is important and we as a society have come a long way to including everyone. My question is where does this end?

A man is no longer a man. A woman is no longer a woman. And by the terms of what Pelosi is wanting, we should all identify with being a human and that’s final. I don’t understand the argument by her and the Democrats though. We have people dying, massive unemployment, people without healthcare and poverty at record highs. And, somehow, this is what Speaker Pelosi is focused on? This is what deserves our attention at a moment when there’s a global pandemic? Oh, I forgot… The blowout for your hair was more important than keeping people safe. A sad state of affairs this is even a primary issue.

Pelosi, like many congressional members on both sides of the aisle, are overdue for retirement. We the people didn’t vote for this, but yet again, our faithful leadership deems it to be important. We need better leaders who care about this country and the real problems that Americans are facing everyday. That’s why I got into public service in the first place.
