Republicans in the North Carolina Senate have introduced a new bill, Senate Bill 516, known as the Women’s Safety and Protection Act.

The bill aims to restrict which bathrooms transgender individuals can use. It is intended to protect women from sexual assault, harassment, and violence in private settings like bathrooms.

Democrats are criticizing the bill, with Rep. Julie von Haefen expressing concerns about the potential harm it could cause.

The legislation includes a rule that requires bathrooms and other private areas to be used by only one designated biological sex at a time.

The bill has sparked controversy and drawn both support and criticism from various groups in North Carolina.
