If you were one of the lucky ones to find PPE during the course of last year, you might find some tax savings. Personal protective equipment including face masks, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes bought to stop the spread of COVID-19 can be deducted as a medical expense when filing taxes, the IRS said on Friday.

Accountants had asked the tax agency to push back the deadline given the ongoing challenges with COVID-19. The IRS agreed given the agency is still dealing with a backlog of tax returns from last year. The deadline delay was first reported by Bloomberg News. The Treasury and the IRS confirmed the news Wednesday.
