Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles will seek a fifth term in 2025

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles has announced her plans to run for a fifth term in office, citing the ongoing work that needs to be done in the city.
Lyles, who was first elected mayor in 2017, highlighted achievements in affordable housing, public safety, and infrastructure improvements.
“Charlotte is a city of opportunity, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made,” Lyles said in a statement. “From expanding affordable housing to improving public safety and investing in our infrastructure, we are delivering real results. But there is still work to do—and I’m ready to keep doing it.”
The filing period for candidates in this year’s municipal elections is open until July 18, with only one other candidate, Tigress Sydney Acute McDaniel, having filed to run for mayor so far.
Lyles has been a dominant force in mayoral politics, winning multiple elections with significant margins.
“I believe in the people of Charlotte—our resilience, our spirit, and our potential,” Lyles said. “I’m running for re-election because I know we can keep moving Charlotte forward—together.”
Former Mayor Jennifer Roberts, whom Lyles unseated in the party primary, hinted at a potential run for mayor again in response to Lyles’ announcement.
