The state-of-the-art, Vegas-style resort is schedule to open on the state’s southern border about a year from now. The Bureau of Indian Affairs signed off on the compact last week which was approved by North Carolina official. The tribe says the casino could provide upwards of 4,000 jobs to North Carolinians in the Charlotte region.
Kings Mountain Police Chief Lisa Proctor confirmed officer Frank Lee Whittington Jr. had undergone surgery and was recovering. She said the 13-year veteran of the force was expected to survive his injuries. The unidentified suspect involved was also shot and is being treated for their injuries.
