Kristi Noem Fired, DHS Shake-Up On The Brett Winterble Show

Brett kicks off the program by talking about the sudden firing of Kristi Noem from her position as head of the Department of Homeland Security and the political fallout surrounding the decision. He explains that the news broke within the last hour and quickly became the biggest story of the day. According to Brett, the controversy centers on questions about roughly $220 million spent on messaging campaigns, including ads that featured Noem riding a horse and promoting immigration messaging.

He describes a recent Senate exchange in which Senator John Kennedy pressed Noem on whether the president knew about the spending, suggesting that her answer may have triggered the backlash that led to her dismissal. Brett also notes that Noem appeared to be giving a routine speech at a police gathering in Nashville while news of her firing circulated. He then turns to the reported replacement, Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, highlighting his tough reputation and the coming confirmation battle in Washington.
