Airlines Offer Flexible Travel Options Amid Winter Storm in Carolinas

With the potential for ice and hazardous conditions this weekend, travel disruptions are becoming a growing concern across the Carolinas.
Black ice could form on roadways and runways, creating challenges for both drivers and pilots.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport is among more than 30 airports included in a travel alert, alongside airports in Asheville, Columbia, Greensboro-High Point, Greenville-Spartanburg, Raleigh-Durham, and Wilmington.
In response, several major airlines are offering flexible travel options to help customers manage their plans and minimize disruptions:
Delta Air Lines
Delta is waiving change fees for customers with existing bookings at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The airline announced on January 21 that it will assist passengers by offering free flight changes. If a flight is canceled or a delay causes a missed connection, Delta will rebook affected travelers on the next available flight.
American Airlines
American Airlines is allowing travelers to rebook without fees if their plans are impacted by the storm. Customers can reschedule their flights through the airline’s website, mobile app, or by contacting reservations at 800-433-7300 in the U.S. or Canada.
United Airlines
United Airlines has issued a travel waiver for cities expected to be affected by the storm. Passengers can reschedule their flights without incurring change fees or fare differences, provided the new flight departs between January 21 and January 28. The rebooked flight must be in the same cabin and between the same cities as the original booking.
Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines is offering affected customers the option to rebook or travel standby within 14 days of their original flight date, free of charge. The rebooking must be between the same two cities as the original reservation.
Spirit Airlines
Spirit Airlines has issued a travel advisory with a flexible travel policy. Modification fees and fare differences will be waived for affected customers through January 28.
Travelers are encouraged to check with their airlines for the latest updates and to make adjustments to their plans as needed. With icy conditions expected, safety remains a top priority for both passengers and airlines.
