Snow Possible in Charlotte Sunday, but Forecast Remains Uncertain

The Charlotte region could see snow on Sunday morning, with the National Weather Service (NWS) giving a 30% chance of precipitation. However, forecasters remain unsure about the likelihood of significant accumulation.
In a social media update on January 16, the NWS highlighted the uncertainty, stating that while there has been considerable discussion about snow in areas like Charlotte and Greenville-Spartanburg, the situation remains unclear. They noted that this represents the best chance for snow outside the mountains so far this winter.
For Mecklenburg County, the chance of accumulating an inch of snow by Monday is just 15%, according to the NWS. Any snowfall is expected to occur before 3 p.m. on Sunday, but the opportunity will be brief. Forecasters explained that temperatures near freezing along and east of Interstate 85, combined with winds, are likely to limit snow development.
Sunday’s temperatures are expected to reach a high of 41 degrees and drop to a low of 23 degrees, making conditions less favorable for prolonged snowfall. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates as the forecast evolves.
