Man Arrested After Bringing Gun to Charlotte Light Rail Platform

A man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after police said he brought a gun onto a Charlotte light rail platform.
According to court records, 28-year-old Thomas Paul was arrested at the East/West Boulevard station in South End. Police responded after reports of an armed person and found Paul matching the caller’s description. Officers said he had a Glock tucked in his waistband, along with pepper spray and handcuffs.
Paul told officers he carried the weapon for his security job, but later said it was for personal protection. Because the light rail is city-owned property, he was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on city property.
Jail records show Paul was given a $2,500 bond. Charlotte Area Transit System rules prohibit guns and other dangerous weapons on any city vehicle or property.
