McFadden Responds To Former Mecklenburg Sheriff’s Staffer Lawsuit

A former top executive with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has filed a federal lawsuit against Sheriff Garry McFadden, claiming she was wrongfully fired after raising concerns about pay disparities.
Angelia Riggsbee, who was dismissed in November 2024, alleges she was retaliated against for pointing out wage gaps between Black and white employees. The lawsuit seeks at least $75,000 in damages, back pay, and either reinstatement or compensation. Riggsbee also claims McFadden pressured her to alter financial records, leading to conflict before her termination.
McFadden responded in a nearly 12-minute video posted online, saying his loyalty and trust in staff had been “betrayed.” Without naming specific employees, he noted his wife feels especially hurt, claiming she supported several of the staff members involved in the recent departures.
