Charlotte’s population boom is accelerating, with an average of 157 people moving to the region each day, according to a new report from the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance.

That’s a steep increase from last year, when the daily average was 117. The growth has been steady since 2020, when the pandemic drove more people toward Sun Belt cities.

  • 2023: 113 per day
  • 2022: 84 per day
  • 2021: 83 per day

The Alliance analyzed U.S. Census data from July 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024, and found that the 14-county Charlotte region gained a net 57,300 residents through migration. Dividing that figure by 365 days equals the current daily average of 157.

An Alliance spokesperson said the same methodology has been used in each annual report to ensure consistency.

The surge in new residents brings both challenges and opportunities. Traffic, crowded schools, and strained infrastructure remain concerns, but the influx also highlights Charlotte’s appeal as a place to live and strengthens the local workforce, which is a major draw for businesses.
