Mattie’s Diner will serve its final meals on Sunday, Aug. 10. Owner Matt King announced the closure as part of a decision to sell the building and concentrate on expanding his other restaurant concept, The Wafflery.

“Thanks for the love over the years,” King said in the post. “It’s been a great ride. We will never forget the memories and the wonderful people and connections we have made.”

The chrome-covered diner has had two homes in Charlotte — first on North Carolina Music Factory Boulevard and most recently at the corner of The Plaza and Shamrock Drive.

Originally located near what is now AvidXchange Music Factory, the building was placed in storage in 2015 after the land was sold for new development. It reopened in April 2022.

“It’s been a great run,” King said.
