A longtime Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office employee has been terminated after allegedly stabbing a coworker multiple times inside the agency’s arrest processing center.

Deputies say Lakisha Easter attacked the victim on June 2, seriously injuring them. Authorities believe the assault was targeted, as Easter and the victim knew each other. The victim is expected to survive.

Easter, who had worked with the sheriff’s office since 2012, was fired shortly after the incident. She faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or cause serious injury. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

“This was an isolated and extremely unfortunate event,” Sheriff Garry McFadden said. “We are grateful for the quick actions of the MCSO staff, which likely prevented further harm. No one expects violence to erupt in their place of work, and yet incidents like this remind us how critical it is to identify and address warning signs early.”
