The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has canceled leases on two federal offices in Charlotte and four major offices in Greensboro, including the Small Business Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Natural Resources Conservation Service.
DOGE has terminated the leases for the Geological Survey and Environmental Protection Agency offices in Charlotte.
Additionally, the Farm Service Agency’s lease in Wilkesboro was also canceled.
DOGE reports saving $172,167 from Charlotte annual lease and $978,749 from the Greensboro offices and claims to have saved $660 million nationwide through canceled leases.

The largest facility in North Carolina affected is the Nature Resources Conservation Commission in Greensboro, a 30,123-square-foot facility, followed by the IRS office in Wilmington.
Experts and critics have questioned the department’s claim that DOGE has saved the government $65 billion, calling the figure unclear and difficult to verify, according to NPR. DOGE has been accused of overstating savings by including funds no longer spent on completed or terminated contracts.
