Winter Road Conditions Cause Multiple Crashes in NC

A series of crashes on Interstate 85 in Salisbury has led to the closure of all four lanes near exit 76 for East Innes Street and U.S. 52.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported four separate incidents in a 2-mile span, with crashes also occurring at mile-markers 74 and 75.
North of Charlotte in Huntersville, five people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred on an icy bridge over the river, prompting firefighters to rescue at least one trapped individual.
Emergency personnel from Mecklenburg and Lincoln County responded to the scene, with Medic describing it as the most severe accident in Huntersville.
The bridge will remain closed until the icy conditions are addressed, and drivers are advised to avoid the area.

On Wednesday, not too far from Charlotte, a 50-car pile-up was reported near the I-40 and I-85 split in Alamance County.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed Wednesday night that 53 cars were involved in the incident:
“Two separate collisions had occurred on I-40/85 causing traffic to slow to a stop, backing traffic up onto I-40. The stopped traffic was struck from behind by multiple vehicles, including a tractor/trailer that struck a passenger vehicle from behind causing a fatality. At least three additional multi-vehicle collisions occurred behind the fatal collision blocking I-40. Twelve collisions occurred within the immediate area of I-40 near the 159-mile marker with a total of fifty-three vehicles involved.”
One person died and multiple others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
