President Trump signed an executive order to explore ways to reduce the cost of fertility treatments, specifically in vitro fertilization.
The order does not change any policy but seeks recommendations to lower out-of-pocket and health plan costs for such treatments.
Trump has previously expressed support for making IVF free, but the executive order does not mention this possibility.
The order comes amid concerns about access to fertility treatments and declining fertility rates in the United States.
Advocates hope the order will lead to meaningful policy changes to improve access to IVF.
Mr. Trump vowed during the 2024 campaign that the treatments would either be covered by the government or insurance companies if he was re-elected.
“Your government will pay for or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for all costs associated with IVF treatment,” Mr. Trump said in August 2024.
