Josh Stein, the current Attorney General of North Carolina, has been elected as the state’s next North Carolina governor, defeating Republican Mark Robinson.

Stein will be the first Jewish governor of North Carolina and has worked to address issues such as the backlog of untested sexual assault kits and the opioid epidemic.

Robinson, the current lieutenant governor, has faced controversy for his inflammatory remarks about various communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals and Jewish people.

He is currently suing CNN over a report linking him to a profile on a pornography website and has made controversial statements about topics such as abortion and marriage equality.
