Dan Rooney Jr, Vice President of Player Personnel for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a Gaston County resident who makes regular trips from the Charlotte area to watch his team play in Acrisure Stadium. One generous donor who contributes at least $100 to #FamilyDancePartyCLT by July 25th and their guest will join Rooney on his jet for the trip from the Queen City to Steel City to watch the Pittsburgh/Cleveland game from his suite on December 8th!
In addition to the “Suite Flyaway” Rooney also gave a $5000 donation in honor of the young people in Gaston County and at Johnson C Smith University who’d made videos in support of #FamilyDancePartyCLT, Ramona Holloway’s fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association.
As her #dementia progressed Ramona’s mom Wheezy had no filter and boldly told Rooney that Mike Tomlin was her favorite NFL coach because he’s Black.
While Ramona warned him that Wheezy would probably share that story with him many times because of her cognitive decline, Rooney took it as a sign that his father’s diversity efforts as chairman of the NFL’s Workplace Diversity Committee were being recognized.
Encouraging our young people to use their time and talents for the good of the community is a goal shared by Rooney and Professor Charles Easley, the seasoned JCSU educator, who put his design class to work shooting videos to promote Family Dance Party CLT on social media.
Easley says it gave them an opportunity to get real-world experience, just like the Stuart Cramer High School kids did when they produced a video.
Holloway says she’s thankful for partners in education and in the corporate community like Radio One Charlotte and Rooney, who recognize the importance of both raising dementia awareness and including young people in philanthropy.
She says, “They could be taking care of us someday and the Alzheimer’s Association is likely to play a role in supporting them through it.” In less than 30 years it’s estimated that 12.7 million Americans 65 and older will have Alzheimer’s. It’s a public health crisis currently affecting roughly 6 million Americans. It’s a disease that can take a physical, emotional, and financial toll on families.
Holloway adds that 100% of the donations will go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association Western Carolina Chapter to support research, advocacy, care, and support.
Donate to Family Dance Party CLT today and maybe you’ll receive the “suite” present from the Dan Rooney, Jr. The recipient will be announced during a live-streamed celebration at 4 pm on July 28th.
