Former Carolina Panthers and 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee Kevin Greene has died at age 58. His 15-season NFL career was highlighted by 160 sacks, which stands as the third-highest total in NFL history. Three of those years were spent in Carolina where he led the league in sacks in 1996.
The fact that Marty Hurney lasted as long as he did as a general manager of an NFL team is rather remarkable. But after two separate stints as the team’s general manager that covered 15 years, Hurney was relieved of his duties Monday morning by owner David Tepper.
Herney, 65, oversaw duties as the team's GM since 2017. He was with Panthers organization since 1998 and played a major role in helping to build two Super Bowl runs in 2003 with coach John Fox and in 2015 under then general manager Dave Gettleman.
No. 1 Alabama (11-0) will face No. 4 Notre Dame (11-1) in the Rose Bowl that was moved from Pasadena, Calif. to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on New Year's Day (5 p.m. ET/ TV: ESPN). It's the first of the two semifinal games followed by No. 2 Clemson (10-1) vs. No. 3 Ohio State (6-0) in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl (8 p.m. ET/ TV: ESPN). The Tigers are the top team from the Carolinas and will make the Playoff for a sixth-straight season.
Aaron Rodgers threw for his 40th touchdown of the season as the Green Bay Packers held off the Carolina Panthers for a 24-16 win at Lambeau Field on Saturday night, Rodgers becomes the first player to throw for 40+ TD's in three separate NFL seasons. He needs five TD's to match his career-high of 45 set during his MVP year in 2011.
