Stephen Maury Baker was taken into custody and had his initial court appearance on Monday, according to the FBI. Baker becomes the third man from the Carolinas charged in connection to the riots. Christopher Raphael Spencer of Pilot Mountain, N.C. was taken into custody without incident by special agents two weeks ago.

The CDC notified South Carolina health officials that a sample tested at a LabCorp facility was found to be B.1.35 positive as well, the health department said Thursday. At the same time, the state’s own public health lab “identified a separate case of the same variant,” the South Carolina Department of Health said in a statement.

Officials are investigating the two-alarm blaze that happened just before 5 a.m. at Concord Diner on Sherwood Court, southeast of I-85 off Highway 29. Firefighters from Concord and the adjoining cities of Harrisburg and Kannapolis responded to multiple calls about the diner being engulfed in flames.

“The North Carolina utilities Commission as well as the North Carolina Supreme Court has affirmed these are prudent costs and is part of producing electricity for our customers," Duke Energy spokesperson Meredith Archie told WBTV. “Duke Energy has been producing energy from coal-fired units for decades. And so a byproduct of this is coal ash."
