Man shot by law enforcement in West Virginia identified

FRANKLIN, W.Va. (AP) -- A Virginia sheriff has identified a man fatally shot by law enforcement after a chase that ended in West Virginia. Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson told news outlets that the man killed Tuesday afternoon was Casey Desper of McGaheysville, Virginia, who was wanted on a probation violation.

Sheriff: Woman arrested for attacking man's boat with hammer

RUTHER GLEN, Va. (AP) -- Authorities say a black woman accused of using a hammer to smash a white man's car and boat at a gas station before attacking him has been arrested. The Caroline County, Virginia, sheriff's office says 26-year-old Angela Jones was arrested Wednesday in New Jersey. The sheriff's office says witnesses saw Jones use a hammer to hit the car and boat it was towing.

In West Virginia, greyhound racing's days could be numbered

NITRO, W.Va. (AP) -- At one of the last remaining greyhound tracks in the U.S., dogs with names such as Terracuda and Flyin Jawbreaker outnumber the people watching in the stands. The race bettors and spectators at the Mardi Gras Casino and Resort in West Virginia stopped showing up long ago. Soon, the greyhounds could be gone, too.
