Rain postpones Reds-Cardinals game in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds has been postponed because of rain. No makeup day has been announced and a doubleheader on Sunday has been ruled out. The Cardinals, winners of nine of their past 11, were set to start Mike Leake (3-1, 1.32 ERA). The Reds, who have lost eight of nine games, expected Bronson Arroyo (2-2, 6.86) to make his fifth start of the season.

In a game of home run derby, Starlin Castro tied it with a two-run drive that capped a three-run burst in the ninth off Brad Brach.

Molina helps Cardinals pick off victory against Reds

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina has picked off 48 runners in his 14-year career, and his heads-up play in the sixth inning of the Cardinals' 7-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday may have been his finest work. Molina short-circuited a Reds rally by catching Eugenio Suarez napping at third with the bases loaded in a 3-1 game. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn walked Devin Mesoraco with two away.

Tarasenko scores 2, Blues beat Predators 3-2 to even series

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Vladimir Tarasenko was at the right place at the right time to take advantage of a lucky bounce and help the St. Louis Blues get a big win. Tarasenko scored twice, including the tiebreaking goal with 3:51 left to give the Blues a 3-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Friday night, tying their Western Conference semifinal series at one game apiece.

Cardinals sweep doubleheader from Blue Jays

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- It took a little while for the St. Louis Cardinals bats to get going during Thursday's day-night doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays. Once they did, they made a big difference. After rallying late to win the first game, backed by Randal Grichuk's ninth-inning homer and Matt Carpenter's 11th inning grand slam, the Cardinals scored early and often in the nightcap to beat the Blue Jays 6-4 and sweep the doubleheader.

Predators' Fiala out of playoffs after breaking leg

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Nashville Predators forward Kevin Fiala broke his left leg during Game 1 against St. Louis and is recovering from surgery to repair his femur, the team said Thursday. The 20-year-old Fiala was hit by Blues defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and went hard into the boards behind the St. Louis net at 1:46 of the second period Wednesday night. His injury led to a 17-minute delay while Fiala received medical attention.

Inmate argues religious duty to deal heroin; appeal fails

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A St. Louis man ordered to spend more than a quarter century in prison on drug charges has failed to have his prosecution overturned, despite his argument that he has a religious duty to sell heroin. In an appeal to the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis, Timothy Anderson did not deny he was a heroin dealer.

Predators beat Blues 4-3 in Game 1 of second-round series

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- One nifty little flip by Vernon Fiddler provided a big lift for the Nashville Predators on a rough night. Fiddler scored with 5:05 left and P.K. Subban had a goal and two assists, powering Nashville to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series on Wednesday.

Audit: Ferguson courts 'in disarray' after police killing

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- An audit launched in the wake of unrest following the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson found the city's court system "in disarray" and disorganized, according to a report released Wednesday by the Missouri state auditor. State Auditor Nicole Galloway was in St. Louis to release details of the audit, which gave Ferguson courts a "poor" rating -- the lowest available.
