The appliances have been ordered from Queen City Audio, Video, and Appliances. Thanks to Roddy Player and Chip Fincher for guiding us through that process. We ended up selecting Kitchen Aide appliances, and a GE Washer and Dryer. I learned a lot through the process, and am really excited with what we picked. In fact, the entire kitchen is taking shape. The counter tops from Granite Transformations have been ordered, the farmhouse sink and a variety of Kohler faucets selected, and most of the bathroom fixtures have been finalized.

Insulation is in.... Drywall next.

The fireplace box is in, the electrical and plumbing rough in completed, and the insulation was just completed. Drywall should go up this week if the snow, ice, and freezing temps don’t delay us. Ditto for the Brick stairs on the front and side of the house. It has to be above freezing to mix what we need to do that work too.

We could use the fireplace this week.

Mark Brummond and Garage Door Doctor have prewired for our garage doors, and so has CPI Security. I can see the progress on a daily business but to the casual onlooker, it appears that things have slowed down. They haven’t. We will select tile on Saturday, and choose the finishing touches for kitchen and baths.

Slowly but surely, we are making progress for a May completion date.

Susan and I wandered through Tyndall Furniture on Saturday. We will be buying our 3rd Tyndall Pedic Memory Foam mattress, a king size this time, (gotta have more room for the dogs), so we’ll need a new bed. So many choices, but Chuck Tyndall and Tim McGuire made it easy to find what we were looking for. In addition, we found some stools that we can order in the distressed red color that we want for the kitchen island seating, and we saw a line of tables and chairs called ‘Select, by John Thomas’, that we might consider in the future.

Slowly but surely, we are making progress for a May completion date.

Next up is lighting, flooring, and paint colors. It’s all coming together for our May move in date.

I should take a moment to thank my builder Jeff Newton. I truly believe that the good lord directed us to Jeff. You couldn’t find a better man or a more honest builder. We never would have envisioned building a house like this, but my wife Susan, who works for WBTV Channel 3, got to know Jeff who built the St. Jude’s House with Channel 3 and raised a million dollars for St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis. Jeff is not only totally committed to the St. Jude’s cause but has led us through every step of building this house. We could not have done it without his guidance and advice. He keeps us on budget without sacrificing quality, and listens to what we want and delivers it.

Brother's Air, Heat, and Plumbing preps for what's next.

If you’ve ever thought of building your ‘dream home’, or even if you haven’t,(you don’t have to be rich to do it) get an honest builder, and if you want, use mine…Newton Custom Homes and Real Estate … “Tell him Hancock Sent You”.

So that’s it for now. We are within 90 days of moving in. It exciting! I can’t wait to sit on that porch, sleep in that bed, and eat in that kitchen.
