John Hancock Annual Pancake Breakfast

Young boy scouts served pancakes, bacon and sausage hot off the griddle; fathers gathered with sons; Charlotte Hornet's mascot, Hugo, made an appearance and over two hundred people turned out for John Hancock's Annual Pancake breakfast Saturday morning at Sharon Presbyterian Church.

The community event held annually before John Hancock's Father's Day broadcast raises money for the Men's Shelter of Charlotte.

This year the event raised over $1,800.

Boy scouts and volunteers served 300 plates of pancakes.

Show hosts, producers and staff from WBT and sister station WFNZ mixed and mingled among the crowd.

It was a great morning and we appreciate all those who came out and supported such a wonderful event and cause.

More about the event:

It's that time of year again!

Many WBT listeners know how special John Hancock’s dad was to him.

John's father was an Episcopalian Minister who had a huge heart for the underprivileged and it’s obvious where John inherited his passion for helping others.

Each year, News 1110/99.3 WBT’s John Hancock commemorates his father’s passing with a special broadcast on March 16th.

His annual Pancake Breakfast, March 11, is a way to extend this event to our community, honoring fathers everywhere, while benefiting the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte.

The breakfast will take place March 11, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., at Sharon Presbyterian Church (5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC).

Area Boy Scouts are helping prepare and serve breakfast as dads from around the area bring their children to celebrate WBT’s version of “Fathers’ Day”.

John's annual pancake breakfast is a day where fathers, grandfathers, sons and daughters take the time to celebrate the men in their lives and build lasting memories over pancakes and coffee.

No doubt, John’s father would be proud that so many people jump in to make this day happen. In the spirit of teamwork, John is joined by the best “servers” in Charlotte, WBT Personalities: Bo Thompson, Scott Fitzgerald, Jim Szoke, Boomer Von Cannon, and Mark Garrison.
