Some "funny money" making its way around Caldwell and Lenoir Counties

Some phony one hundred dollar bills along with twenties, tens, fives, and even ones are showing up in Caldwell and Lenoir Counties.

The bills are not made in the United States but rather in China where they are used for training purposes. They are easy to spot as they have Chinese markings on them. They also have a different feel to them than a real bill.

But that hasn't stopped someone from passing them around in the area.

Caldwell County Sheriff Alan Jones warns that the phony bills could very well make their way to other counties in the region and advises businesses and consumers to pay attention to the possibility of getting one of these bills.

Unfortunately, if a consumer unknowingly gets one, there is no recourse on exchanging it for a real bill.
